Why should you follow my wander?

If you’re reading this post, maybe you want some convincing. Well, selling something you don’t want isn’t really my style, so let me try to just spit some truth and see if that resonates with you.

If you’re on my site, here are some possibilities for why. (Make sure to read through to the end, where things get real!)

  • You know me personally and care about my life. You either want to keep up with me or you want to support me. Thanks!
  • You appreciate my thoughts and views on the world and want to engage with them and learn from them
  • You find my writing style entertaining or engaging
  • You find my photos nice to look at (more on my Instagram page)
  • You’re trying to get to know me – maybe you’re a new friend, an employer, a collaborator, a government surveillance team (hey y’all!), etc.

If you’re any of those, welcome! But here’s the one that I especially hope applies to you:

  • There’s a piece of you that knows you’re a wanderer too. You long to do some form of what I’m doing; you crave the freedom. You’re following my wander for inspiration or for some sense of vicarious freedom.

In the months since I decided to undertake this wander and began telling people about it, countless people have reacted with some form of: “Gosh, I wish I could do that!” And maybe you too are reading along and telling yourself:

“I would love to do that, but I just can’t because of X, Y, and Z.”

Maybe XYZ are real barriers; maybe they aren’t. Maybe they’re physical barriers (e.g., my children will starve if I leave my job); maybe they’re emotional barriers (e.g., the instability of such a choice is too scary to consider).

As you keep up with me and my journey, I invite you to indulge the fantasies of your inner wanderer. See if you can change the second part of that statement to a “because”:

“I would love to do that because A, B, and C.”

Dreaming is free. And I promise you, it’s more possible than you think. You have no idea how much power over your own life you truly have, and how many of the barriers you think stand in your way are actually illusory barriers, put in place either by you or by society.* Either way, the barriers can be pushed, poked, and prodded, and sometimes they can be prevailed over. (And if you really want to engage in these ideas, I will soon provide coaching; shoot me a note if you’re interested.)

Please, let yourself dream.

*I should be clear that I’m not talking about that stereotypical “YOU TOO CAN BE WEALTHY BEYOND BELIEF!” nonsense you get from many people calling themselves gurus, coaches, etc. In fact, it’s actually not true that everyone can be wildly wealthy if only they harness nonsense A and nonsense B. I’m talking about the power to live consciously and intentionally outside of the game that most of us having been forced to play (largely unconsciously) since birth, which has been created by modern society and economic and political systems. I’m sure I’ll get more into this in a later post.
